# Zoned date and time

%dtf\_zoned\_…% shows the current date and time in a time zone of your choice—with its offset, if you want it.

```
%dtf_zoned_<adjuster>_<time>_<zone>_<format>_[locale]%
```

Works like [`%dtf_local_…%`](/wyne-docs/datetimeformatexpansion/local-date-and-time.md), with one more argument: the time zone. The current date and time are taken in that zone, then moved and formatted the same way. `<adjuster>`, `<time>` and `<locale>` are exactly as described there.

```
%dtf_zoned_NOW_NOW_Asia/Tokyo_HH:mm%
```

shows the time in Tokyo, whatever the server's own zone is.

## Zone

| Zone                                             | Means                                                                                                                                |
| ------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| `NOW`                                            | The server's time zone.                                                                                                              |
| A region, such as `Europe/Berlin` | That region's time, daylight saving included. See the [list of zones](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tz_database_time_zones). |
| An offset, such as `UTC`, `GMT+5` or `UTC-03:00` | A fixed offset from UTC.                                                                                                             |
| A short ID, such as `EST` or `CET`               | Java's [short zone IDs](https://docs.oracle.com/javase/8/docs/api/java/time/ZoneId.html#SHORT_IDS).                                  |

Zones are case-sensitive: `Europe/Berlin`, not `europe/berlin`. An unknown zone is an error—see [When something is wrong](/wyne-docs/datetimeformatexpansion/formats-and-nesting.md#when-something-is-wrong).

{% hint style="warning" %}
A region with `_` in its name, such as `America/New_York` or `America/Los_Angeles`, can't be used: the `_` splits it into two arguments. Pick another region in the same zone instead—`America/Toronto` keeps New York's time, daylight saving included, and `America/Vancouver` keeps Los Angeles's.
{% endhint %}

## Format

Patterns work as on the [local page](/wyne-docs/datetimeformatexpansion/local-date-and-time.md#patterns), plus the zone letters of `DateTimeFormatter`: `XXX` for the offset (`+04:00`), `z` for the zone's short name, `VV` for its ID (`Asia/Yerevan`).

The predefined formats include the zone. The examples show 8 December 2025, 22:04:06 in `Asia/Yerevan`:

| Key                    | Shows                                               |

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://wyne.gitbook.io/wyne-docs/datetimeformatexpansion/zoned-date-and-time.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
